Derek Brahney is a New York-based artist working in sculpture, drawing, photography, installation and mixed media. Originally trained in industrial design, his work often employs unexpected juxtapositions, conceptual wit and absurdist humor to explore the poetic potential of objects.
Brahney is also the founder of New Studio, an award-winning practice creating imagery, objects and experiences for various commercial clients.

Cyanotype print of a common household extension cord, in the first image the line created by the cord’s shape is left intact and in the alternate image it is cut into a grid and rearranged. A cyanotype print is made by laying objects onto a photosensitive paper and exposing it to sunlight to create an image.
